Piglets Pantry

CHANCES are you’ve tried a Piglet’s Pantry product, you just don’t know you have.

This family-run Sussex food producer began as a small seaside bakery with a mission to create amazing pies, using the best quality British, sustainable ingredients.

Fast forward 12 years, three buildings and 32 British Pie Awards later, they are supplying 50,000 pie, pastry and patisserie goods per week to sports stadiums, entertainment venues and leading luxury brands, as well as selling to customers online.

The chef-led firm has prestigious contracts with Chelsea FC, Kia Oval, Lords and Twickenham, Merlin Group venues (Legoland, Warwick Castle, Thorpe Park), Warner Bros Studios Tour to name a few, supporting many top events like Cheltenham Gold Cup, Henley, Aintree and Ascot.

Piglet’s Pantry also supply large volumes within the catering and hospitality industry to Compass, Delaware, Aramark, Sodexo, WS and Pelican.

The Piglet’s Pantry journey began when founder, Jo Hunter, won the contract to supply Brighton and Hove Albion with their match-day pies and sausage rolls.

Within 5 years, and with many more football, sports clubs and event spaces later, Jo had built herself an impressive roster of prestigious clients and a dedicated Piglet’s team.

Jo said: “We were thriving in the B2B market, but then came 2020. The world turned upside down and all large event spaces closed - like many other businesses we found ourselves in a sink or swim situation – we lost most of our order book overnight due to the stadium closures. A quick decision was made, and we vowed to paddle as hard as we could. Within three days, we had a website ready to go so we could sell to customers online, with a focus on a cakes and bakes delivery service across the UK, rather than selling Piglet’s products across counters at large events.

“The word quickly spread through Instagram and Facebook and orders started flooding in from people sat at home looking to brighten their day.”

With this new-found success and customer base, however, came growing pains. As the world slowly opened up again and the insatiable demand for half-time pies and sausage rolls returned, it became clear that more change was needed, if the growing doorstep delivery business was going to be maintained alongside Jo’s original stadia clients.

The company moved to a much larger premises to serve a growing and varying client base.

Jo added: “Our HQ gives us plenty of room to grow further – the future looks exciting with lots of new products in development. We believe our success is due to our innovation - we occupy a space unusual in our world, hand-filling all our pies with batch-cooked fillings, just like you'd make at home but on a large scale, and attention to detail at every point. Using only British meat sourced especially for us by our butcher with whom we’ve traded since the beginning is a huge part of our success. Traceability is a massive part of what we do and our supplier relationships with both local butcher and greengrocer mean we always know exactly where our produce comes from.”

Piglet’s Pantry has also gained a reputation for providing a fixed or pop-up direct retail solution, providing the flexible solution their clients need.
