How YOU can take part
There are lots of ways that you can take part in British Food Fortnight. See the ideas below for information on how you can enjoy British food in your home and when you are shopping and eating out during the Fortnight, in particular “14 things you can do during the Fortnight” - how many of these will you be able to do this year?! Don't forget to make sure that your children's school is planning to include cookery and food-related activities in their curriculum teaching - by doing so and entering our 'Cook for Life' Challenge the school could win class sets of Kenwood cooking equipment. Encourage your local shop, pub and restaurant to run special tastings and promotions too.
Detailed information for producers, retailers, caterers and teachers is provided on this site - please click on the Take Part button and follow the menu.

British Food Fortnight has teamed up with Walkers Are Welcome towns to organise Foodie Trails around the country!
British Food Fortnight was started in the autumn of 2002, with the aim of promoting British produce and boosting the rural economy after the devastating effects of foot and mouth disease. Apart from the massive loss of livestock, one of the worst effects of foot and mouth was the fact that the countryside was closed to walkers. This quickly proved how essential walkers are to rural businesses, bringing extra income to village shops, pubs and B&Bs.
This is a great opportunity for walking towns to get involved with the national food celebration. After all, when you finish a walk there is nothing better than a pint of local brew, a cream tea or a home-made pie!
We know that in each WaW town and village there is at least one pub, tea shop or restaurant serving the best local food. Most also have a master baker, a deli, a cheese maker, a cider maker, a micro brewery or even a vineyard. WaW towns are surrounded by farms that grow fruit and vegetables, rare breed meat or barley to brew the beer, or who run a little farm shop, so we want you to get involved. This is a great opportunity to promote WaW and BFF locally and nationally.
