Celebrate the best of British


Indulge in British food! Seek out in-season fruits and vegetables, quality British meat and some of our country's fabulous cheeses and dairy produce when you are out shopping and use these to create delicious meals at home. What about trying some of our most traditional dishes, such as Shepherd's Pie or Apple Crumble, and giving them a modern twist?!

If you have children, consider involving them in the preparation of the meal - British Food Fortnight is a great opportunity to teach them a few cooking skills as well as an appreciation of the pleasures and health benefits of eating good food.

Ingredients (serves 2)

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 225g (8oz) fresh broad beans, shelled
  • 500ml (18fl oz) vegetable stock
  • 1 tbsp fresh mint, chopped plus
  • a few leaves for garnish
  • Black pepper
  • 2 tbsp reduced fat plain yoghurt


  1. Heat the oil in a pan and sauté the onion until soft.
  2. Add the beans and the stock and simmer for about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Add the chopped mint and pepper.
  4. Remove most of the mixture to blend, leaving some beans in the pan.
  5. Blend the mixture in a food processor until smooth.
  6. Pour the mixture back into the pan, reheat and stir in the yoghurt before serving.
  7. Garnish with a few mint leaves and serve with wholemeal bread or toast.
