Indulge in British food! Seek out in-season fruits and vegetables, quality British meat and some of our country's fabulous cheeses and dairy produce when you are out shopping and use these to create delicious meals at home. What about trying some of our most traditional dishes, such as Shepherd's Pie or Apple Crumble, and giving them a modern twist?!

If you have children, consider involving them in the preparation of the meal - British Food Fortnight is a great opportunity to teach them a few cooking skills as well as an appreciation of the pleasures and health benefits of eating good food.

Glazed ham with a marmalade glaze PDF Print E-mail

Ingredients
1 whole ham on the bone
1 packet dried figs or apricots
1 bottle brown ale
1 jar marmalade
175g/6oz brown sugar
12 cloves

Method
Place the ham in a very large saucepan, fill with water and bring to the boil.

Turn down the heat to a rolling boil and boil for 20 minutes.

Remove the ham and allow to cool a little, remove the very outer skin of the ham, leaving the fat, score the fat with a knife into a squared pattern and dot with cloves.

Spread a deep roasting tin with dried figs or apricots and place the ham on top

Pour over the ale and cover tightly with foil, sealing the edges well

Bake in the centre of the oven for 3 – 4 hours depending on the size of the ham in a moderate oven at 350˚F (180˚C) gas mark 4.

Mix the marmalade and brown sugar together, remove the foil and coat the ham, bake for a further 25 minutes at 425˚F (220˚C) gas mark 7 basting occasionally.
