- Copella is giving away apple trees to consumers as part of its Plant and Protect campaign to save England's Orchards. Cox's Orange Pippin trees, one of the English apple varieties used in Copella juice, will be offered to Sainsbury's customers who collect tokens from special 750ml bottles.
- Latest government figures suggest beef and lamb exports are rising while imports continue to fall. Worldwide exports of beef from the UK are up almost 40% from January to June 2011, while lamb exports, already strong in recent years at around 30% of production, have risen by an additional 5.8% worldwide.
- Morrisons has added 51 more beers to its regional ale range! A Cheshire ale made with blueberries and a Sussex ale containing ground coffee beans are among the new varieties on offer from Morrisons.
- The Scottish Venison Partnership says Scotland needs to increase the number of deer farms by an additional 500 to meet venison demand. Venison sales across the UK grew from £32m in 2006 to £43m in 2009, an increase of over 34 percent in 3 years!
- EBLEX has launched a new point of sale kit to help butchers teach their customers the facts about red meat. The kit contains 2 posters and a consumer leaflet outlining the positive role red meat plays in maintaining good health and wellbeing. - Sainsbury's is holding a Great British Beer Hunt to allow smaller brewers to showcase their beers at a national level. 16 of the UK's beers will be put on sale temporarily from 7 Sept, pitching 2 from each region against one another. The most popular will go through to a final on 30 Sept and 2 overall winners will be sold for a minimum of 6 months!
- The Ocado website has launched an online farm shop with the help of Daylesford farm. See this link. The launch is expected to be the first of many on Ocado's site, as it looks to combine everyday groceries with specialist products not widely available on the high street.
- Morrison celebrated British Bounty Day last month (25th August). The day was said to have the most British produce in stores across the country, with 146 different lines of British produce being offered and over 13 million pieces of fruit and veg on shop shelves.
- Ambrosia is opening a factory in Lifton, Devon. Ambrosia already supports British with all the brand's dairy requirements being sourced in the UK.
- The Co-operative has launched a milk group comprising 230 British dairy farms, which supply liquid milk into the Co-ops stores.
- Asda is working with Heart of England Fine Foods (HEFF) to extend its range of local food and drink with a key focus on bakery. Asda already stocks lines from 8 HEFF producers but is keen to work with more over the next 12 months.
- Westons Cider has been granted Protected Graphical Indicator (PGI) status for its new premium Henry Westons Perry.
- High-grade, home-reared goat meat is on the rise! In the past 10 years there's been a gradual build-up of interest in goat meat and now there are 15 commercial farms and 150 breeders nationwide. Goat meat is both cheaper and leaner than lamb.
- Waitrose will be stocking English damsons throughout September as part of their Tiptree Summer Fruit Collection. The collection also includes seasonal English strawberries, raspberries, Victoria plums and greengages.
- Asda has extended its Butcher's Selection range to meat joints after the initial launch of beef steaks lead to a 50 percent spike in sales. The Butcher's Selction will now also include pork, gammon, beef and lamb joints.

Fruit: apples,bilberries, blackberries, blueberries, damsons, loganberries, pears, plums, raspberries, redcurrants, strawberries and tomatoes.
Herbs: basil, chestnuts, chives, cob nuts, coriander, mint, mushrooms (cultivated), mushrooms (wild), oregano, parsley (curly), parsley (flat-leaf), rosemary, sage, sorrel, tarragon, thyme and walnuts.
Meat: beef, chicken, duck, goose, grouse, guinea fowl, hare, lamb, mallard, partridge, pheasant, pork, rabbit, turkey, venison, wild duck and wood pigeon.
