Restaurant of the Month: The Kitchen, Falmouth
Close look at The Kitchen, Falmouth, members and supporters of Love British Food and British Food Fortnight.
Nothing imported, all fresh grown, shot or foraged. Opened April 11, 2017. The boys at The Kitchen have extended their home and opened their doors. Pop in for a dinner party, or a drink or banquet. Lick the plates clean and take your shoes off if you fancy. Have a mooch and a dance if the music tickles you.
Just two friends wanting to create a home and a space where all the senses are involved and really show what can be given by the land around you.
Why do you do what you do?
We wanted to really be part of the community, there's too much industrial growth, shipping and wastage of food.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The connections we make with people we wouldn't otherwise meet.
What do you enjoy the least about your job?
People asking for bread or extra salt and pepper.
What achievement for the restaurant are you most proud of?
That people feel the experience; when they comment on how they feel they're at a friends.
Do you use British Produce?
Except from some dried goods, and coffee, sugar and chocolate, all fresh produce is within the British isles, and mostly this side of the Taymar.
What do you think is best about using British produce?
Forces you to work seasonally and understand the land beneath your feet.
Why should people buy British?
Support local industry, stop importing mass-produced, monoculture crops from all over the world all year round to the detriment of all veins of wildlife and the planet as a whole. I should rein that in. But still.
What is your most popular dish?
Grownup Donut (not really a dish). Whole Artichoke.
