Restaurant of the month: Benedicts
9 St Benedicts Street
Tel: 01603 926080
Benedicts opened in June 2015, a small family run restaurant in the heart of the Norwich lanes. They serve 34 covers in the restaurant and up to 14 in The Sewing Room which is the beautifully presented Private Dining Room. They describe their food as modern British cuisine influenced by French Classics.
Love British Food met Richard Bainbridge founder of Benedicts to learn more about the restaurant.
Why do you do what you do?
Benedicts is focused on serving great, local, seasonal food with an emphasis on hospitality. We believe that in a busy world you need to be able to stop and enjoy the simple things like food, drink and friends.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Working with my incredible team and local suppliers. The seasons around me and making our customers happy.
What do you least enjoy about your job?
Finding the balance between work and family life as I feel such a strong commitment to both. Oh and Trip Advisor :-)
What achievement for the restaurant are you most proud of?
That we're still open 3 years on and even though our team has grown we still hold true to our original values.
Do you use British Produce?
Yes and as local as possible.
What do you think is best about using British produce?
Using British produce is the best and natural way to cook.
Why should people buy British?
It makes complete sense to me to use what is on our doorstep. We grow some of the best produce in the world which people seem to forget with the use of big supermarkets. I truly believe people need to go back to their Greengrocers and vegetable growers as we've become detached from seasonal, local produce over recent years.
What is your most popular dish?
Nanny Bush's Trifle
