Dorothy Clive Garden

This beautiful garden, situated in Market Drayton in Shropshire, was initially created by Colonel Harry Clive in 1940 to provide his ailing wife – Dorothy – a ‘series of interesting walks’ as she battled with Parkinsons disease. In 1958 the Dorothy Clive Garden was entrusted by Colonel Clive, to an independent charity – The Willoughbridge Garden Trust. This charity manages, what is now an enhanced 12-acre garden.

Visitors to the garden can explore the charming English countryside.Enjoy great plants throughout the seasons, take in delightful views and enjoy tasty homemade food which is made in the Tearoom with locally sourced produce.Favourites on the menu include Ploughman’s served with Three Counties Cheese or Ham, Staffordshire Oatcakes or for those of us with a sweet tooth opt for the delicious cream tea with homemade scones. There is also an extensive selection of delicious home made cakes, all baked in the kitchens of the tearoom.

There is a huge number of events happening at The Dorothy Clive Garden this year, including the 7th Annual Chilli, Cheese and Chocolate Festival on 23rd September from 10am – 5.30pm.This event is a fun and fiery family event.Enjoy the artisan market stalls, live music, chilli trail around the garden, some cooking demos, a chilli eating contest plus lots more. This is a special fundraising event for the Dorothy Clive Garden.See www.dorothyclivegarden.co.uk for more info.

The garden also runs a school education programme so if you are a school teacher, or leader so do get in touch if this is of interest.

1st May is Staffordshire Day and to celebrate, The Dorothy Clive Garden will be adding Lobby and Trentham Tart to their menu.  The Staffordshire Oaktcakes are already on the menu and hugely popular.

Lobby is a beef stew although will be made The Dorothy Clive Garden Way.

Trentham Tart is a Staffordshire family recipe handed down through the generations and the resasoning behind its decoration still remains a mystery.
