Welsh Food Fortnight 2011

The tenth British Food Fortnight takes place from 17 September to 2 October 2011 during Harvest Festival, the traditional time for celebrating our food.  There are lots of activities taking place in Wales with Welsh Food Fortnight flying the flag for Welsh food as part of the national promotion.

The diverse and delicious range of food produced in Wales is celebrated with promotions and tastings in shops, all-Welsh menus in pubs and restaurants, food and cookery lessons in schools and glorious food festivals.  All the information about Welsh Food Fortnight is on this website.

- Secondary schools win the opportunity to cook for royalty and the Hairy Bikers!

This year's British Food Fortnight's School Challenge (18 Sept - 3 Oct 2010) is the biggest yet.

Pre and Primary school children: the Challenge is to design the ultimate school smoothie and is being judged by children's TV presenter, Michaela Strachan.  Every school entering the competition will recieve a FREE Tractor Ted Goes Milking DVD with teacher notes worth £12.99 - a real life film showing where milk comes from.  The winning school will receive the full Tractor Ted DVD, book & toy collection worth £250 and a visit to their school from Tractor Ted and his little Activity Shed.

Secondary schools: the Challenge is inspired by the Hairy Bikers' recent 'Mums Know Best' television programme.  Design and cook a meal based on recipes that would have been used in your school's part of the country by previous generations.  The winning school will be invited to come to London to cook their chosen meal for HRH The Duchess of Cornwall and the Hairy Bikers!

Competition details and entry forms are on this link.  The site also offers a new downloadable resource, 'Putting the Ooo back into food - The Case Studies': 100 inspiring case studies of how schools have taken part in British Food Fortnight in previous years, plus lots of other classroom resources and details of organisations representing 9,000 chefs who can come to your school and help you teach children how to cook.
