Press coverage for your Love British Food Celebrations PDF Print E-mail

Taking part in Love British Food activities is an excellent opportunity to gain some publicity for your community, particularly with the close connection to the Olympics! Media coverage can be a fantastic way of thanking the producers, organizers and those who gave their time to make the day so special.

Love British Food will be promoted nationwide. You may however want to raise the profile of your own event by getting in touch with the local media yourself. Here are some simple tips on approaching the media and getting your activities out there for everyone to see!

Contacting the Press for Media Success

  • Write a press release – Describe what's going on, where it's happening and how many people are going to attend. Keep it concise and aim to encapsulate the reader straight away. Avoid writing more than one page! A list of local regional media contacts can be found here

  • Who, What, Where – Give details of where your food has come from. Farmers work hard all year round to produce the best local produce, why not say thank you and let everyone know where you got your ingredients from.

  • Send your press release to your chosen media – Allow enough time between when you distribute to the press and when your event is planned.  Don't forget to include your own contact details too!

  • Follow up the information you've sent – Call the editor, food writer or local reporter, and take this opportunity to remind them about your event.

  • Aim for post event publicity too – Invite a journalist and photographer: newspapers always enjoy having photos of local people participating in events. If a journalist cannot attend, you can post or email a selection of photos to the paper's picture desk with a typed note giving details of your event.

  • Don't forget to contact the BBC & local radio too – If you're holding a particularly large event then they may even send a broadcast unit along. Just make sure you give them as much notice as possible.
